Does Your Home Still Fit the Life You Love?

July 01, 20263 min read

Sometimes the reason to move has nothing to do with the house itself.

One of my favorite things about living in Colorado is how naturally life moves outdoors during the summer. Summer brings beautiful hikes, wandering through quirky mountain towns, outdoor concerts, afternoons on a patio with friends, and countless reasons to simply enjoy where we live.

Summer has a way of reminding us of what we truly enjoy in life. And sometimes it can prompt thoughts of living differently, when our living situation no longer supports our lifestyle and prevents us from doing the things we love in life.

It's Rarely About More Square Footage

When people think about moving, they often assume they're looking for a bigger house...or a smaller one.

But after helping clients through retirement, divorce, rightsizing, and other major life transitions, I've realized something.

Most people aren't searching for more square footage. They're searching for a life that feels easier, more meaningful, and more aligned with who they are today.

Maybe they're hoping for:

  • Less time maintaining a yard.

  • More weekends exploring Colorado.

  • A patio they'll actually use.

  • A home that's easier to travel from.

  • A neighborhood where they can walk to dinner.

  • Being closer to family and friends.

The house is simply the vehicle. And the lifestyle is the destination.

That's Why I Prefer the Word "Rightsizing"

People hear the word downsizing and immediately think they're giving something up.

Rightsizing is about asking one simple question:

Does my home still support the life I want to live?

Summer Gives Us Clues

Longer days and breathing the fresh air have a way of helping us see things differently.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I using my home the way I thought I would?

  • Do I still love where I live?

  • If I were buying today, would I choose this neighborhood again?

  • Is my home giving me more freedom? Or creating more work?

Those questions often tell us more than interest rates or market headlines ever will.

My Favorite Part of This Job

Helping someone buy or sell a home is rewarding. But my favorite part is watching someone step into a season of life, feeling lighter and more peaceful.

Maybe trading endless yard work for weekend hikes.

Maybe they're finally closer to grandchildren and no longer have the stress of home maintenance.

Maybe they finally have the freedom to travel without worrying about the house they left behind.

That's what success looks like to me.

A Thought to Leave You With

This summer, while you're enjoying everything Colorado has to offer, take a moment to ask yourself:

Does my home help me live the life I love...or is it getting in the way?

Because the best home isn't always the biggest home or the home with the fanciest finishes.

It's the one that gives you more time for the people, places, and experiences that matter most.

If you've been thinking about what your next chapter could look like, even if moving is still years away, I'm always here as a resource. Sometimes the best plan starts long before a "For Sale" sign ever goes up.

What's one thing that would make your home fit your lifestyle even better?
